Happy Halloween!

We Ate the Bug!

The local museums had a family fun day with different art projects and dinosaur themed activities. We had such a great time. The boys looked for fossils, participated in an excavation project (for toy dinosaurs) did different art projects, and many other things. The highlight was eating a bug. Believe it or not, we all did it. I had reservations but how can I let my boys do it (little Daniel went back for more) and not do it with them? That was definitely protein I did not need!!! You only received the sticker if you ate a bug so I had to eat one! Choices were crickets and mill worms. A mill worm doesn't sound bad right? Well, mine got stuck in my throat. Guess that is what I get for not chewing. Enjoy the video and have a laugh at my expense.

Pumpkin Patch

This is not your typical pumpkin patch. We were not on a farm, there were no hayrides, no hot chocolate, no pies to sample, smores to cook, or animals to feed. A local church puts on this pumpkin patch as a fundraiser each year. The boys enjoyed pulling a wagon around in search of their perfect pumpkin! There was laughter and happiness and that is what is most important. Do you notice what the boys are wearing...shorts and a t-shirt, in the middle of October! It has been fun to watch Lendl soak up Halloween and all that it involves. He has been ready to dress up for weeks and he is excited to carve his own pumpkin. Daniel has always been very observant. Each time he saw a pumpkin, it was searched for roundness, dirt spots, the perfect stem, and little Daniel considered what design would best fit that pumpkin. After choosing about 6 pumpkins he finally made his selection. Stay tuned for our pumpkin carvings.

"I Love to See the Temple"

Daniel and I had the opportunity to go to the Houston temple this past Friday. It was a much needed trip! It was a perfect way to lead up to Conference weekend. I love feeling the spirit in the temple and love the simple yet elegant beauty inside. When President Monson mentioned the new temples to be built around the world, I let out a big shout of joy. I am excited for all of the new temples but cannot help to be thrilled for Calgary. I wish I was still there to be part of the process.

Preschool

Several mothers from my ward started a Co-Op preschool for our three year olds. We meet once a week and we all take turns doing the teaching. Lendl has been so excited to start school. We counted down how many "sleeps" left until school and then when the day arrived he was up about an hour earlier than usual ready to go. We let him pick out his own back pack. That in itself was exciting for Lendl. He has been wearing his backpack around for a month and when we evacuated, he made sure that it came with us. He is such a happy boy and I am grateful for his excitiment for life and learning.
